Tesla’s decision to stop selling the $60,990 RWD Cybertruck, the cheapest version of its angular EV truck, and instead increase the price of the next-in-line AWD Cybertruck by $20,000 has caused quite a stir. Now priced at $99,990, it elevates the EV’s price floor by a significant $39,000. The tri-motor version of the truck, known as the Cyberbeast, is also now more expensive at $119,990, up from $99,990 before August 6th.

The updated prices are especially disappointing considering Tesla’s initial promise in 2019 that the Cybertruck would start at $39,990. This drastic increase in pricing has left many potential buyers feeling misled and frustrated with the company.

While Tesla has tried to soften the blow of increased prices by bumping up delivery times, the estimates are still quite far off. The company now estimates it can deliver AWD Cybertrucks to customers between August and September 2024, with the Cyberbeast following between October and December 2024. Previously, orders were projected for 2025 deliveries, making the wait even longer for eager customers.

In addition to the soaring prices and delayed deliveries, Tesla has faced other setbacks with the Cybertruck. This year alone, there have been two recalls, one for faulty accelerator pedals and another for defective wiper blades. These issues have added to the growing list of challenges Tesla is currently facing.

Beyond the specific issues with the Cybertruck, Tesla has been navigating through a turbulent period marked by falling profits, federal investigations, lawsuits, and recalls. These challenges have further compounded the negative impact of the Cybertruck’s rising costs and setbacks, putting additional pressure on the company to address its issues promptly and effectively.

The recent developments surrounding Tesla’s Cybertruck paint a concerning picture of rising prices, delayed deliveries, recalls, and broader company challenges. As Tesla continues to address these issues, it will need to regain the trust and confidence of consumers while also demonstrating a commitment to quality and reliability in its products.
