Google Photos is shaking things up with the introduction of a new destination called Collections. This feature is designed to streamline the organization of your albums by housing all of them in one convenient place. Whether it’s your private albums, shared albums, or new folders for people, pets, documents, and places, Collections aims to make finding content easier than ever.
In addition to the Collections feature, Google Photos has also revamped the search tab. By replacing the previous image tiles with a list of suggested options such as Screenshots, Selfies, and Menus, the new design provides a more user-friendly experience. This redesign sets the stage for Google’s upcoming Gemini-powered Ask Photos assistant, set to launch sometime this summer.
The Collections view, which replaces the existing library tab, is currently being rolled out to all Android and iOS users of Google Photos. While the transition may take a few weeks to reach all devices, users can expect a more intuitive experience when navigating their albums. Within the Collections tab, users can easily switch between different views like “All,” “Shared with me,” and “My albums,” simplifying the browsing process.
Google Photos has made a few tweaks to its folder management system. Folders for “Favorites” and “Trash” now take precedence at the top of the Collections view, offering quick access to these essential categories. Additionally, the placement of Locked Folders has been adjusted in response to user feedback, ensuring a more user-centric approach to content organization.
As part of the update, the Utilities folder is being removed, but fear not – the tools within it are simply being relocated for easier access. For example, the option to create a Locked Folder can now be found at the bottom of the Collections tab, offering a more streamlined approach to content security. Moreover, features like importing images, creating albums, collages, and highlight videos can now be accessed by tapping the “+” symbol, enhancing the overall user experience.
