Minecraft’s Realms servers have been experiencing ongoing issues for the past four days. The problems started on August 13th with “intermittent failures or slowdowns,” as reported by Mojang’s official service status account. Despite sporadic reports of the servers being up, most players have still been unable to access Realms. This prolonged downtime has left many frustrated and unable to enjoy the benefits of the paid subscription service.
The official Mojang Status account tweeted about actively working on resolving the issues, claiming on one occasion that the service was “up and running” with some latency problems. However, players quickly pointed out that they were still experiencing difficulties. Subsequent updates indicated that the team was still working on the problems, with assurances that Realms was back up and running globally. Unfortunately, this was short-lived as connectivity issues and latency resurfaced shortly after.
The connectivity issues seem to have started following the release of Minecraft update 1.21.20, which made changes to how Realms invite links function and aimed to fix various bugs. A subsequent update, 1.21.21, was specifically released to enhance the reliability of connecting to Realms. However, these updates did not seem to have the desired effect, leaving players frustrated and unable to enjoy a seamless gaming experience.
Many players have expressed their frustration with the ongoing server issues. Managing a Realms account has become a chore due to the frequent downtime and connectivity problems. The subscription fee of £6.69 per month feels unjustified when the servers are inaccessible for days at a time. While Minecraft itself is a beloved game, the issues surrounding the Bedrock edition’s infrastructure give players a sense of disappointment and irritation.
Despite the challenges presented by Realms servers, players are willing to endure the frustrations for the sake of playing Minecraft cross-platform with friends and family. The desire to connect with others through the game outweighs the inconvenience of dealing with server downtime.
