WhatsApp for Android is currently in the process of developing a new privacy-related feature that will allow users to better manage their synced contacts. The feature is designed to enhance the functionality of the multi-account feature, enabling users to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same device without the need for parallel apps.

With this upcoming change, users will have the ability to choose how they want to sync their address book contacts, giving them more control over their privacy settings. This feature is part of a series of recent beta updates on WhatsApp for Android, which include a shortcut for marking all chats as ‘read’ simultaneously.

According to feature tracker WABetaInfo, the contact syncing feature will allow users to manage the synchronization of their address book when using WhatsApp on different devices. This feature was first spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.14, indicating that it is still in the development stage.

Based on a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, the new feature comes with a user-friendly UI that includes the description “Keep your contacts separate for each account”. In addition to managing contact syncing, users will also be able to handle WhatsApp contacts from their linked devices, providing a more streamlined experience.

While the new contact syncing feature is currently being developed, it is not yet available to beta testers registered via the Google Play Beta program. It is expected to be included in a future update of WhatsApp for Android, although not all features in development ultimately make it to the public version of the app. WhatsApp is also rumored to be testing additional features, such as better chat management options and the ability to mark all received messages as ‘read’.

WhatsApp for Android is known for maintaining feature parity with its iOS counterpart, ensuring that similar features are available on both platforms. The messaging platform aims to provide a seamless experience for users regardless of the operating system they are using on their smartphones.

The new contact syncing feature on WhatsApp for Android represents a significant step towards enhancing user privacy and control over their synced contacts. With more features still in development, WhatsApp continues to improve the user experience and functionality of its popular messaging app.
