WhatsApp has been making strides in enhancing the user experience on its messaging platform. Recent developments have indicated that the company is working on adding support for chat themes and user protection features. These new additions are expected to give users more control over the customization of their chats and increase security within the app.

One of the significant updates that WhatsApp is working on is the introduction of chat themes. Users will have the ability to change the colour of chat bubbles and background using preset themes or customize their own colours and wallpapers. The feature tracker has revealed that the messaging app will offer 10 theme presets for users to choose from. These themes will include solid colour backgrounds and landscape art-inspired themes, with chat bubble colours corresponding to the background colour.

Screenshots of the theme picker in action show two rows of horizontally scrolling themes. The top row consists of solid colour backgrounds, while the bottom row features themes based on landscape art. The development of the theme picker is still ongoing, and it is not yet available to beta testers. This means that users will have to wait until the feature is ready for testing. Unlike other messaging platforms like Instagram and Messenger, WhatsApp’s themes will only be visible to the user who applies them.

In addition to chat themes, WhatsApp is also working on user protection features to enhance security within the app. The company is developing a username feature that will enable users to start new conversations without sharing their phone numbers. Furthermore, a new Username PIN feature is being developed to protect users from unwanted contact. After setting a unique username, users will be prompted to set a PIN that must be shared with others to initiate a conversation using the username.

The Username PIN feature is designed to give users control over who can send them messages and prevent spammers from reaching them. This advanced security measure will provide users with added protection and peace of mind while using the app. Like the theme picker, the Username PIN feature is still in development and will not be accessible to beta testers until it is ready for testing.

WhatsApp’s upcoming chat themes and user protection features are set to revolutionize the user experience on the platform. With more customization options and enhanced security measures, users can look forward to a more personalized and secure messaging experience. These features are currently in development and will be rolled out to beta testers before being made available to all users on the stable channel.
